A man has been arrested in a gun attack on a crowded bus in India, the country’s state-run television channel has said.

Police said the man was in custody after the attack in Uttar Pradesh state on Thursday night.

The attack was carried out after a man on the bus was injured in a firefight.

The man was arrested after the firefight and is currently undergoing questioning, the channel said.

The Indian government has vowed to stamp out “mass-shooting” and said a man has now been arrested.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered the police to “take every possible measure” to prevent further attacks, saying that “there is no doubt” that the man in custody has been involved in the attacks.

“We are in a position to say the man has participated in the attack,” he told reporters in New Delhi.

“This is not a political statement, this is a political matter.”

India is not the only country to experience such violence.

In July 2016, a gunman killed five people and wounded six at a shopping mall in the southern Indian city of Chennai.

That attack left the gunman dead and a total of 17 people dead.
